Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edzimkulu Team Member Zanele Mhkwanazi. She died Thursday, June 19th in Pietermaritzburg.
As you may know, Zanele was part of Edzimkulu from the very beginning. Jim and Chris Newton chose Ndawana as the community for their work in South Africa after reading a letter Zanele sent to the Underberg newspaper the Mountain Echo describing the devastation of AIDS in Ndawana. And now it is hard to imagine Edzimkulu without Zanele. In the words of our chair Susan Green "The young woman who lit the spark for Edzimkulu is no longer."
