From the Project
June 26th, 2009, Ndawana Community Centre Burns Down
Dear Friends,
A fire swept through the Ndawana community centre on June 25, 2009, destroying four buildings including the clinic that had become the focal point for health care provided by Edzimkulu. A spark from the heating stove in the clinic ignited the tinder dry thatch roof, with the blaze spreading quickly due to high winds. Thankfully no one was hurt.

The news is shocking to everyone involved with Edzimkulu. However, our work carries on. In the short term, the clinic will operate out of a nearby building and an army tent. Edzimkulu’s Team Members are on the ground dealing with the aftermath of the fire in Ndawana and setting up the temporary clinic.
It is our intention to purchase a trailer which will be converted to house four consulting rooms and a waiting room. We are currently treating over 230 HIV/AIDS patients including more than 25 children. Before the fire we had more than 1000 patient visits to our health clinic each month. If we can collect $50,000 we can purchase the trailer and be treating patients in these temporary facilities by mid August.
We will need your help and will gratefully accept any financial support you’re able to provide as we rebuild.
