November 28,  2003 posting, by Jim

We arrived in Underberg on November 4th and by the 21st we had all our household goods here (a bed, two computers, some tables, our clothes and lots of books). We're connected to the internet and e-mail, probably pretty quickly in view of everything. There have been many frustrations and many things that have gone amazingly well. We've certainly found that roadblocks can be removed one at a time with patience and the good fortune to find the right person to help. In any case, we're here and getting a long way toward being settled in. We're finding used furniture and other household items at good prices, and we're proceeding toward having a comfortable, if highly eclectic, place to live and house volunteers.

Chris's mother is coming in mid-January to volunteer (she's approaching 86), Tim Senger arrives at the end of January, Colleen Vallee in March and Debbie Cantin in May or before. We hope many more of you will come to share this very beautiful place and important work.

The summer rains have arrived and the Mzimkhulu river is way up from the 10 month drought that preceded the day of our arrival here; looking down on the river from our house is an endless joy. The hillsides and mountains are unbelievably green, mostly grass covered in contrast to the bare rock in our Rockies. It's cool to cold every night, even when the day has been hot (the highest temperature so far has been 31 here).
